Was poking around on Itunes looking at the current top 100 downloaded songs and saw that the song Just a Friend by Biz Markie was #70. I can only guess that this is because the song is featured in a current television ad featuring a bunch of people in a cab singing this quite-catchy song. What is amazing is the song came out in like 1988, yet 20 years later it’s a top 100 purchased song. If you wanna watch the ad click this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jqZTJk30qg
Was doing a little research on Biz Markie on wikipedia wondering whatever happened to him when I came across this gem:
He released his debut album, Goin’ Off, which attracted a fair amount of attention, largely due to the lead single, Make the Music With Your Mouth, Biz. The album also featured the underground hit singles Nobody Beats The Biz, The Vapors and Pickin’ Boogers.
A year later, Biz broke into the mainstream when Just a Friend, a single featuring rapped verses and out-of-tune, sung choruses, reached the pop top ten.
Pickin’ Boogers! – How could such a gem stay in the underground? oh I miss the 80′s…
